Abdul-Rehman Malik, Contributing Editor at Q-News and avid folk fan, talks from The Battle of Ideas' "Who Gives A Folk?" debate. He discusses why the 'authenticity' of the music is so important to his listening experience, and how the political possibilities of songs help to give us a sense of belonging.

There's enough people out there, deceived by postmodernist hogwash and rootlessness, who dismiss folk music as some exercise in nostalgia. It's good to hear a fresh and frankly passionate response like this. Folk isn't "white" music, it isn't "black" music - it's people's music and we should all be able to share in what it offers: values, progressive politics, solidarity, heart and soul. Bravo!
