Animal Aid secretly filmed inside an English abattoir. The footage shows discarded children’s riding ponies and unprofitable race horses being shot in the head with a rifle and then butchered for human consumption.

I do have horses for the last 20 years and i like them.what i do not like is a tunnel vision.Where is the report of slaughtering cattle, pigs, poultry and in some places dogs.there is a need to feed and i would prefer horse meat instead of any other meat generated in conzentration camps with real cruelty and full of antibiotics and other drugs.I see horse meat as an organic way to produce meat for human consumption.Organic is the trend nowadays, isn't it? In my 20 years experience with horses, I think we should take a look in riding schools as well.I saw horses suffering from bad backs and open ulcers still in use to teach the art of riding.I saw horses suffering from arthritis still in use in riding schools.I think this footage is one of the lucky ones. What is about transport of horses over 48 hrs on a lorry without water, than shipped by sea to a slaughterhouse abroad ,because they pay better. Where is the change in law to stop living animal transport across countries in Europe.Did we every thought about stut milk produced for the health market. Most of those stut are going into slaughterhouses after seven years of service..Let's say thousands of horses get slaughtered a year...How many suffer and we do not know anything about it....times 10....times 20...what about horses in the pharmaceutical industry to produce certain vaccines...i saw horses beaten up with iron poles by their ownwers, starving and neclected.I went to Greece on holidays and saw horse riding for children on the beach.I asked the owner where he got the horses from.He said they were rescued and bought from the slaughterhouse to prevent cruelty. They were mainly older horses now in Greece suffering, but rescued to prevent cruelty. There are hundreds of those stories.Get the full picture. Whats about embryo transfer in horse breeding,so that the valuable stut can still earn money in sport and the breeder gets a foal out of another horse which than will get dumped.General practise in Germany ...I saw horses rescued and than sent to get slaughtered, animal charities couldn't accomodate them because of lack of money. I think we need regulations to prevent things like that, because everybody can buy horses tomorrow with or without knowledge and this is where most of those horses will end.Get the full picture.

I'm not about to watch a nearly ten minute video (30 to 360 seconds is far more appropriate for this site). However, I see absolutely nothing wrong with eating horses as long as the husbandry and slaughter are up to scratch. The tag you have described the video with suggests nothing untoward whatsoever, in fact it suggests a remarkably non-wasteful means of ending any animals life.

stop this barbaric killing as soon as possible, animals should not be treat like this .they deserve a humane death, why can a injection be given by a vet not a worker. this country is becoming more like the vile heartless asian countries that think nothing of this behaviour.and to think what goes on behind closed doors what is kept totally hidden, from the public eye.why should animals be treat this way ?why. we treat phedophiles who have done a crime better than this, and all of the many other crimes .the hamans are the ones with four legs and the "animals " have two and speaks .we are a society of getting thrills from causing agonies to animals to get they kicks.and the meat industry is appalling ,i rarely eat any meat now.the same goes for fur,not mink and the like all fur . kathleen turnbull windsor u.k.

As far as i can see, the guys are making perfectly clean kills. The horses die right away. If people aren't beiing deceived into thinking it's not horse meat then I see no problem. and to answer the question on the last post, an injection would cost a lot more money and would take away a lot of the profit in it, and in my opinion, wouldn't be any more painless. So if people want to eat horse I say bon appitite.

thi video is horrible it maybe legal for this but from what i can see those horses were perfectly healthy this cruelty should be stop immediatly im horrifide that people could even face themselves in the mirror when they know that they are killing these beautiful animals if i new them would shoot them myself !!!!!!!.

Ok, calm down, no need to threaten violence to get your point across. Now, I would like to show you the definition of cruelty, it is to do something which causes great pain to another. I can tell these horses feel no pain in this prosses, even though horses are not traditionaly thought of as food, if one is sold to become food, and someone is willing to eat it, more power to them.

Clearly it is better to stop industries such as the horse racing industry for whom horses are just disposable items to be shot when they break a leg. These people who claim to love horses must i suppose shoot their children if they break a leg. The vast majority of race horses do not make money and are therefore killed or sold and often later killed. It is just a business in which animals are disposable, same for dog racing.
